Retail and Commercial Office Space Lighting & Industrial Lighting
Retail shops and commercial office buildings, as well as industrial locations have a similar types of lighting installations. The following are used in mostly indoor settings. If your business is having trouble with any kind of lighting or would like to maintain or upgrade to a new type of lighting, call Root Electric about any of these:
Although many offices and retail locations are phasing out incandescent lighting for more energy-efficient types, incandescent lighting still illuminates many office spaces, particularly in the form of halogen lamps. Halogen lamps are often still used to light up retail products. Incandescent lighting technology, invented by Thomas Edison back in 1879 has changed little since its discovery. We recommend that offices and retail shops update their lighting to more energy-efficient options.
Very common as an office lighting or retail lighting solution, fluorescent lighting is used to spread overhead light over large areas. These are usually about four times more energy-saving than incandescent lamps, but as they age, they often start to hum and flicker, and can be particularly irritating to some individuals. Fluorescent lamps come in 3 general models:
- T12 Fluorescents (the most commonly used)
- Magnetic Ballast Lamps (cheap initially installation, but not as efficient as electronic ballast types)
- T5 & T8 Fluorescents (the most energy efficient of the regular fluorescent lamps, they are used for general, large-area lighting).
Contact Root Electric for installation and replacement for the following fluorescent lighting applications:
- Fluorescent bulb replacement
- Ballast replacement
Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs)
CFLs use about 70 percent less energy than regular incandescent bulbs and many offices and retail stores rushed to install them a few years ago as incandescents were phased out of production. They also last about 10 times as long as incandescents, but due to how they work, they can take 30 seconds to 3 minutes to fully illuminate. They also contain a small amount of mercury, making it a health hazard to break one if you’re changing one and drop it.
LED bulbs produce light as soon as the electrical current is turned on. They are 75 percent more efficient than incandescent bulbs and can last between 20,000 and 50,000 hours. While they have been an expensive lighting solution in the past, prices are falling and they are being installed in more and more offices and retail spaces across Northern Virginia. (Read More)
Metal Halide and High Pressure Sodium Lamp Repair and Replacement
Metal halide lights produce intensely bright white light with a high color-rendering index (more of the spectrum is created in this white light). They produce light through an electric arch that goes through a mixture of mercury and metal halide vapor (usually iodine or bromine). They are most frequently used in exterior lighting, sports fields, parking lots and industrial lighting applications. High Pressure Sodium Lamps are similar to metal halide lamps in that they produce light by sending an electric arch through a mixture of gas. Often used in large industrial settings, parking lots, streetlights and as grow lamps because of their strength in producing the red and orange segments of white light, which encourages plant growth. Root Electric’s commercial electricians are experienced in repairing and replacing metal halide and high pressure sodium lamps. If you have questions about your MH or HPS lights, contact Root Electric for assistance.
Wall Pack Service and Replacement
Wall pack lighting is the most common form of outdoor lighting fixture used for commercial and industrial facilities. Wall packs are mounted on outdoor walls of most commercial and public buildings throughout Northern Virginia. They produce powerful, high-intensity light over a broad outdoor area. Currently, many businesses are installing newer wall pack models that produce less light pollution while still providing safety and security lighting in even the most harsh weather conditions. Root Electric can service and replace wall packs when they need maintenance or you want to upgrade to a more energy efficient model.
Battery Back-Up Exit Sign and Emergency Lighting Replacement
Emergency lighting and exit signs are an essential safety element for any commercial or industrial lighting plan. The placement and operation of these type of commercial lighting are controlled by local building and fire codes. If you need battery back-up exit sign and emergency lighting replacement or maintenance to keep up with codes and ensure safety for your employees and clients, Root Electric can help.
Many businesses around Northern Virginia have been calling our commercial electricians to retrofit their existing light fixtures so that they use energy-efficient, long-lasting LED lights. In many cases, we can even use existing light fixtures to make LED upgrades. When this is not possible, we can also do full LED lighting replacements.
