Do not repair light fixtures. Replace them instead!

I get asked from time to time if we can repair light fixtures in people's homes. The short answer is no. Most of them these days, they're stamped together in a factory in China. They're made to last three to five years and then be replaced with something new. Even if we were able to repair them, usually the cost to go ahead and do that versus just going ahead and supplying us with a new fixture and having us replace it would be prohibitive because it would take more time to repair a fixture if it could be repaired than it would be to just put a new one up. So if you have some old light fixtures that need to be repaired that are heirloom light fixtures, in other words they are very valuable, they are very well made, maybe they are antiques, then sometimes those are worth it.But you wouldn't take it to an electrician. You would take that to a lamp store and mostly lamp stores will be able to rewire them and repair them. But even that is becoming a rare skill.I actually knew a guy that ran a like a second-hand store, let's call it, and he specializes in really good antiques. He'll rewire them. But again, sometimes you have to ask around. So again, most of the time when you have light fixtures in your house you just have to replace them.
