Many older garage outlets share circuits with bathrooms or outdoor plugs, so charging an EV on an existing outlet can overload the circuit and cause tripped breakers or damaged connections. Most EVs work best with a properly installed dedicated charging circuit designed for the electrical demand.
Flickering lights and outlets that work intermittently are often signs of loose electrical connections hidden behind walls. Those loose connections can create heat and tiny sparks over time, increasing the risk of damaged wiring or even an electrical fire if ignored.
Many homeowners assume an old electrical panel is safe because nothing has failed yet, but hidden issues can exist for years before showing visible problems. Aging panels and deferred maintenance can lead to power failures, damaged systems, or even electrical fires behind the walls.
People spend heavily on kitchens and appliances, but ignore the wiring that powers everything behind the walls. Your electrical system is like the transmission in a car because without updated wiring and proper circuits, the upgrades you actually see and use will never perform the way they should.
Most homeowners assume their electrical system can handle high-powered tools and heat-generating appliances, but many older homes were only designed for basic lighting and small electronics.

Running modern high-draw devices without proper circuit upgrades can overload wiring and create safety risks.

Houses built before the 1970s have wiring with insulation made of cloth and natural rubber. Over the decades the insulation dry rots and falls off of the conductors when the wires are manipulated.

Are you selling your house soon? Here are three electrical updates you should do before listing your house. #rootelectric #residentialelectrician #fairfaxcountyrealestate #springfieldva #fairfaxstationva
I`m Bill Root with Root Electric, and these are three things you need to do to your house before you get ready to sell it.
[00:00:07 - 00:00:23]
Number one: You want to replace your outlets and switches. If not throughout the whole house, at least in the kitchen and in your major bathrooms. When you replace your outlets, it gives the house an updated look and compliments fresh paint—which you should be doing as well.
[00:00:24 - 00:00:35]
The next thing you need to do is replace your light fixtures. Again, if not throughout the whole house, replace them in the kitchen and the master bath. These are the hot points that new buyers are going to look for.
[00:00:36 - 00:01:15]
Number three: Hire an electrician to perform an evaluation on the house that you`re selling. He`s going to go through the attic, he`s going to go through the crawl space, he`s going to look outside, he`s going to look at all your outlets and switches; he`s going to look in the places that you don`t look for for problems. This is going to save you a fortune when it comes time for a home inspection, because when the home inspector gets in there, he is going to bring up issues that may alarm the new buyer. But if you can anticipate them and have them taken care of before you put the house for sale, then you`re going to save yourself a fortune. I`m Bill Root with Root Electric.
Hopefully, this helps! Are you planning to sell your home soon?
